It's in the 70s, beautiful, & sunny today. I indulged myself for a short drive to Hyland Park (where Sharon used to work in Bloomington) so I could go on a 30 minute trail run.
Clear, blue skies; light breeze; chorus frogs in full gear; and an immensely peaceful and gratifying moment of "yes...yes...this is where I belong." I couldn't wipe the smile from my face as I ran.
Consider a moment like this a point in favor of Zephyr Valley.

That seems ironic, given where you experienced it.
If you were working in Redwing would you have the same opportunity?
I see what you're saying, but my point is that this kind of environment would be right out my back door. Literally right out my back door.
What would NOT be out your door?
Paved biking trails. A coffee shop (except there's a woman that lives in the valley that's thinking about opening a coffee shop in Rushford <6 mi. away).
Dickhead across the alley with his "car trick out" business. Boom cars.
Winona has, to the degree that any modest-sized, progressive little town does, ietms of various cultural interest to me. It's no Twin Cities. But the question: what's most important to me in the world? Items 1-5 may be things that WOULD be right outside my door-or in it.
Winona is great, but LAnesboro would be right up your alley too. A little theatre to keep your acting bug alive. A lot of trails and the Root River. Check it out.
I'm familiar with Lanesboro-it's a beautiful town. But it's a little off track, here, as I'm not planning a move to a small town. The only reason Winona came up is that its the closest community of note to Zephyr, and where I would most likely be working if the move happened.
I thought that the Z thing died back a little. Is there a strong breeze blowing on those embers?
It's ever-present. It died back only in the sense that we realized that there is no requirement that we rush the decision. When and if, it is time to make that move-it will become clear to us.
