The Daddy Daughter Day

We held off a day to wait for the weather to improve before taking a special birthday daddy-daughter day. Many more activities occurred, of course, but I had a camera along only for our exploits at French Regional Park and a stop for games & smoothies at Caribou on the way home.

Select shots below (I think I formatted these as "enlargeable").

Fantastic. Looks like fun was had by one without any doubt.

Truly. Great times. One of her gifts was getting high-tech running gear (like daddy's). It was a little cool for the shorts & sport shirt, but she was wearing them under her fleece & windpants and we carried on with our plan to hit the park.

The hilight of the afternoon - not captured on camera - was when we treked up to a large, hilltop picnic area that was totally void of people (off-season). Under windswept, partly cloudy skies we had all manner of fun on a sand volleyball court: long-jumping, sandcastle building, rockhounding, digging.

I wish I was hanging out with her again today.

This is what life is all about brother! Hanging out with your children is a huge and wonderful gift.

Word verification still sucks.

thanks, men

Tough to chronicle everything, of course, because the kid has to be more important than the camera.

Being the parent I want to be vs. chronicling the life of my child for posterity. It's the same dilemma as "Having the vacation I want to have vs. chronicling the vacation for posterity." It's a far bigger and more constant dilemma than I would have guessed, though of course the "chronicling" part has to lose out 90% of the time.

Thanks, all. I passed along the birthday wishes. I told her Stephen and Pat and Pat and Cory and Aaron wished her happy birthday.

She said, "You made a mistake, Daddy! You said 'Pat' two times!"

I reminded her that there's two Pats.
