Packaged Up with a Bow for T-Clog

He knows where he stands on the issues. He just wants to cut through the bullshit and know who he should vote for.

The Candidate Selector, brought to you by Minnesota Public Radio.

I found it a little frustrating, as there were some issues where I was forced to choose an answer for which I would have added a caveat. But it is what it is.

My candidates, in order:
Edwards/Obama: 25
Clinton: 23
Richardson: 21
Kucinich: 19
Gravel: 15
Guiliani: 10
Paul: 9
Romney: 7
McCain: 6
Huckabee: 4
Hunter: 4
Thompson: 4

T-Clog - this is an example of how someone can be a partisan, but not for the sake of being a partisan. I can answer questionaires and do blind surveys till I'm blue in the face, but I will always end up looking like like a duck, quacking like a duck, and voting Democrat.

Not quite as clear cut for me...

Kucinich - 18
Clinton - 16
Gravel! - 16
Richardson - 16
Edwards - 16
Obama - 14
Paul - 10
Giuliani - 6
McCain - 3
Huckabee - 1
Romney -1
Hunter - 0
Thompson - 0

Based on the results vis a vis Obama, it's pretty clear that the wording made a fair amount of difference.

It's also painfully clear that I'm not a Republican. Those are some low low scores.

Here's why I think I didn't skew even more liberal. That whole thing about the caveat - there were a couple of instances - one I can think of in particular was in the education thing, where my gut reaction (and something I've actually said many times) is that we should have free college tuition for every American. But for the same reason I don't think that society should suddenly all become vegetarian and let the cows run in the streets, I don't think that "free college tuition" is necessarily a viable part of a platform right now in history. The quiz, of course, doesn't give you any opportunity to speak to the funding of these ideas, or exceptions, etc. etc. The "troops out of Iraq" question, I also found insultingly simplistic.

I was against the invasion (as Congress authorized Bush) every friggin step of the way. But now, every time I think, "Pull them out yesterday," I can't help but think about the Hmoung people we abandoned to untold atrocities as "repayment" for their loyalty during the Vietnam war. I fear for the lives of the Iraqis when we pull out. There's no easy answer, and that goes without saying. But our president - who by all indications feels not the slightest amount of guilt about the whole thing I might add - left us what truly appears to be a no-win situation, where every option is as horrible as the next. I honestly don't know exactly where I stand on this. "Troops out, and peaceful self-rule in Iraq" is my position. But how to get there - I haven't a clue.

Right.

I tried to answer them as if in a vacuum. Breathing became difficult.

At least I can see which party I skew toward. I'll take it again tomorrow and see how things change up.
