Shat

I should mention that I watched the William Shatner Celebrity Roast with A.J. this past weekend, and it was about the funniest effing thing I've ever seen. More than that, I will not say in this forum.

Riveting.

Does the forum exist where a dsicussion of this is possible? Does it involve sensory feedback helmets and Sens-o-Vision?

Oh ALL RIGHT. It was flipping HILARIOUS. A row of comedians (plus George Takei) ripping on William Shatner and (mostly) each other, non-stop, for about two hours. They were in unbelievable form, and unbelievably raunchy. Imagine 120 minutes of, essentially, "Your acting/career/sexual proclivities are so bad...." As dirty as "The Aristocrats," and funny (to me) as, really, anything I've ever seen. And the sublime part is: everybody - those ripping and those getting ripped, were having the time of their lives. I had no idea you could get away with the kind of stuff they were saying, and I think it was beautiful.

Perhaps one of the best, most indelible rips of the night: Greg Giraldo on Lisa Campanelli: "Lisa has fucked more black men than the Tuskegee Experiment."

Excellent!

Lisa Lampanelli's career is entirely based on that fact, so far as I can tell.

There were beaucoup jokes about the fact that she looks like a horse, and about her general ugliness, as well.

And it was those moments, just when you start thinking "Man, they're really being a bit harsh!" or "How much more can she take?" when, suddenly, it's her turn and she gets up and rips everybody else a new one.

Yeah - almost the same thing happened at the Pamela Anderson roast (we had Comedy Central at the time) plus for some reason they let a clearly insane Courtney Love come to the roast. She provided much fodder as well.

It really is a willingness to say something truly despicable about someone right to their face.

The old Dean Martin roasts were pretty bold for their day, and the fact that they were broadcast on network tv.

Great time indeed. Andy Dick's presence didn't hurt, though he was better as a target than a roaster.
