God Didn't Think We Had Enough Going On Here...
Lucy came down with the chicken pox over the weekend. Good God, but between diaper changes, other newborn-oriented interruptions and "Daddy, the bumps are stinging!"...well, let me simply say that a particular, oft-mentioned phrase at daybreak was never quite so apros-pos:

a very famous phrase
often repeated
By us.
Almost exclusively us.
Sorry to hear about the travails. Only good thing is getting the pox out of the way now - although maybe not RIGHT NOW would have been better.
Pox definitely better now than at age 8 or 15 or, God forbid, adult.
But yes-maybe a couple months after Rose's birth woulda been preferable. It's not fun to be 3 years old and not allowed to touch your new baby sister. How that plays into the psychology of the whole dynamic I can only imagine. Gone in smoke, also, are my dreams of spending quiet moments alone with Rose during my paternity leave and having relaxing moments at the coffee shop each morning.
Good thing is-it seems the itchy part is just about over. Now we're down to pure contagion. Lucy & I are having a good time, but in quarantine within the walls of our house.
Other good thing about her having it now is that the whole family is home all the time.
I hope that young Rose doesn't get it yet. Chicken Pox sucked when Emily had it.
They have a shot now that they give kids so that they might never develop chicken pox. I know that you guys stayed away from shots, but it is one of those things that kids get now. Who knows, maybe in the future kids won't get it. I remember it being like a rght of passage. I still have scars. I might have Gibbs look for them when I am in Indiana.
Or have him give you some new ones.
I don't think I've ever had CP. If I did, I have neither memories of or scars from it.
Chicken pox: Almost all adults our age have had them; I'd be surprised if you hadn't, Mix. Would really suck to get them at our age; could turn into shingles.
Shots: I'm a man of science. I'm in favor of most of them; however, shots are only about 75-80% effective, so a lot of kids still get the pox. And pox is one of the few shots I'm for avoiding, in any case. Getting the illness early on, like Lucy is, is a 100% preventative measure against getting it later in life, when it is almost always a lot more serious.
On Rose: Babies at her age (especially breastfeeding ones, if mom is immune) are pretty much immune to getting the pox. However, we're having Lucy avoid touching her, just to be sure.
