It Was the Best of Times, it Was the Worst of Times....

Message, Spock? None, perhaps, except "Happy Birthday;" surely, the 'best of times.'

Indeed, a birthday today, my 34th. Most of the celebration was actually Sunday night, where Sharon surprised me with Star Trek (the original series) Season 2. My girl is officially hooked: you don't buy someone 27 episodes of Star Trek without wanting to see a few of them yourself. Other nice birthday gifts: $30 in Best Buy gift cards from Sharon's parents (which I intend to spend today on The Simpsons Season 2), and a coffee grinder from Sharon's sister, Amy. Her family is always very kind & generous with me for Christmas and my birthday, which is nice since my own family is downright famous for its disappointing history of gift-giving.

On Sunday, I also got Sharon's stupendous homemade mac n' cheese, although she stoutly refused to replicate last year's menu, when she offered to make me a meal of my choice and I requested the same mac n' cheese, stuffing, and bread pudding. We were walking around with so much starch in us it was stiffening our shirts for a week.

I hear that is not all that it stiffens!

If you're implying that I pop a boner a from macaroni n' cheese, stuffing, and bread pudding dinner, you're not far from the truth.

We should celebrate that tapestry of yours too. However, I would not tells Gibbons. He might want to use your tapestry for something naughty?

It's the simple things.

Happy birthday. (now belated)

Old bastard.

Thanks-I am the oldest of us bastards. I don't deny it.

Did end up going out and using my gift certificates to buy The Simpsons Season 2 last night. We watched the first one "Bart Gets an F" Crazy-I don't think I've ever seen that episode all the way through before. Wonder how many more of those there'll be? A lot, I hope.

I have been tempted to get the Simpsons on DVD, possibly starting with season 3 or 4, the beginning of the golden age.

They definitely didn't truly have their stride yet in Season 1. I am, however, looking for great things in Season 2.

Among the episodes to which I am particularly looking forward:
- Treehouse of Horror 1 (a great thing it's here, since I was thinking you had to buy those separately)
- Dancin Homer
- Itchy and Scratchy and Marge
- Bart Gets Hit by a Car
- Principal Charming (Skinner & Patty romance)
- Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? (Homer's long lost brother)
- Brush With Greatness (the painting Ringo Starr one)
- Three Men and a Comic Book (one of the best ever)
- Blood Feud (with one of my favorite scenes ever "My name is Mr. Burns...I believe you have a letter for me...")
