Hangmen Also Die!

Saw a movie by that title in only two sessions (which is not bad), finishing last night. About the WWII German occupation of Czechoslovakia and this amazing underground unity of the Prague citizens not to give up an assassin of this high-ranking Nazi, even at the expense of their lives, or the lives of loved ones. Totally film noir; great with shadows, and lots of intrigue, suspense, etc. Also a very powerful story; one that puts minor problems (like, say, a little girl that doesn't seem to want to go to sleep these days) in perspective. Also wild: the movie was made in 1943, during WWII. Kind of crazy, since that that time, even though people knew all about the Nazis and what they were doing, no one was quite sure how things would shake out.

Sounds like a good movie. Wold it be allowed to be viewed or destroyed if the Natzi's took over the world? The movie that I saw this weekend was about four guys on a canoe trip on a river in Arkansas. The movie takes a wicked turn when these hillbillies try to rape two of the guys. One of the friends from the canoe party quietly approches the bizzare actions and fires an arrow through one of the hillbillies. The movie is called "Diliverence". A movie we should all see together.

No, I believe that movie would have been destroyed by the Nazis, had they "won." That said, the only way they could have possibly "won" would have been to develop the A-Bomb first (ala 'City on the Edge of Forever'). And even then, there's no way they ever would have been able to hold power. It was a futile, if horrificly destructive, effort of Hitler's, if his goal was really world domination.

Very aware of 'Deliverance.' It was used by one of my film instructors in college as an example of a movie that had 'perfect plot development.' It also, if I'm not mistaken, is Burt Reynold's only role that was not a complete joke.

By the way, they didn't just try to rape the guy-they actually did it.

What made you decide to watch that movie? Seems just a bit out of your normal frequency.

I was doing some school work and there was nothing else on. I saw bits and pieces of the film. So they raped him? Nasty rednecked freak.

Yes, they did. And yes, very freaky. That little diddle-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee part at the beginning of "Deuling Banjos" has become famously associated with freakishness of hillbillies as a result of that movie.
